The first edition took place on 5 July 2021. The Transfăgărășan Challenge was born out of the desire and passion of a small group of people who wanted to create a competition for amateurs on the Transfăgărășan road and turn it into a tradition. The idea quickly took shape from a simple thought. 

We set off with low expectations, not knowing exactly what the pandemic had in store for us, but we managed to have a really successful event with a number of 350 participants and a great interest from cycling enthusiasts with more than 150 people registered on the waiting lists.
